The valley is crossed
by the homonym Malafede's stream, a small effluent of Tiber, and it is
inclusive between the Ostiense Street (from Casal Bernocchi to Vitinia),
the Pontina Street, the Presidential Estate of Castel Porziano and the
peripheral buildings of the Azzurro Village.
A real luxuriant Mediterranean forest that is host to Holm oaks
(Quercus ilex), Laurels and
Butcher's brooms (Ruscus aculeatus)
has grown during the years. We can find morever Poplars (Populus
sp.), Cork oaks (Quercus suber), Italian Stone Pines,
Ferns and Bay oaks.
In the zone big flocks of Black-headed Gull (Larus ridibundus),
Little Egrets (Egretta garzetta)
and Grey Herons (Ardea cinerea), can be watched passing quickly
from a reed to the other. We can see birds of prey such as Kestrels
(Falco tinnunculus), Buzzards (Buteo buteo) and Black
Kites (Milvus migrans), and also owls such as Tawny Owls
(Strix aluco) and Barn owls (Tyto
alba) which take refuge in the old abandoned farmhouses. In this area
the nesting of Bee-eater (Merops apiaster) is also very important.
In the territory we can find also a lot of archaeological, geologic
and paleontological finds. It seems that million of years ago really there
was a little confusion in the zone. Vegetation and animals fossils are
numerous, especially big mammals such as fallow deers, bucks, rhinos and
elephants. And the man? It seems that there was also him. As a matter of
fact in this area fragments of finds have been found such as vases and
tips of arrows dated back to the neolitico and, before, to the paleolitico.
There are also a lot of archaeological finds dated back to the Roman Age
such as ceramics and coins recovered in the valley.
