How to reach them

The area can be reached, from Rome, using public transport.

It is possible to reach the area by taking the train to Fiumicino (Fiumicino FS railway station) and  ATAC bus no. 20, as far as the bus stop situated in front of the Junior School called "MARCHIAFAVA", which is just after the turn-off for Fregene Lido.  From here, take Campo Salino Avenue (unpaved road), turn right after the first bridge and proceed across the fields for about 100 metres.  The ponds are on private property (of the SOGEA Spa Estate) and are presently fenced-off.

It is also possible to reach these ponds by car.

By car, the Maccarese ponds can be reached by taking Via Aurelia, as far as the turn-off for Maccarese, after which you must follow the signs for Maccarese-Fregene.  After the village of Maccarese, you will find Campo Salino Avenue, to the left.

Another alternative route is the Roma-Civitavecchia motorway: as far as the turn-off for Maccarese, where you take Rospigliosi Avenue, that ends at Via Castel San Giorgio.  Then you turn right towards Fregene and a little way after this, Campo Salino Avenue can be found on the left.
